Tour Description
Würzburg & Franconian Wine Valley Experience via Rothenburg ob der Tauber
More Wine, More Villages, More Variety Duration:
Introduction
This full-day experience is designed for guests who want greater variety and deeper winery exposure, while still enjoying a relaxed, well-paced day. From historic Würzburg to the vineyards along the Main River, guests explore Franconia’s most iconic wines, wineries, and villages.
What guests experience
The day begins with private pickup in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and a comfortable drive to Würzburg, Franconia’s wine capital. The experience begins with a guided wine and history walk through the Old Town, where the foundations of Franconian viticulture are explained through place, story, and taste. Guests learn about the unique terroir, grape varieties, and centuries-old traditions that have shaped this region.
At the Alte Mainbrücke, guests take part in Würzburg’s most iconic wine ritual: the traditional Brückenschoppen, enjoying a glass of Franconian wine while overlooking the Main River vineyards and Marienberg Fortress. This moment connects local tradition, landscape, and wine culture in a way that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Depending on guest interest, the experience may include a structured tasting at Juliuspital, one of Franconia’s most historic wineries. Here, guests focus on Silvaner and other regional classics, learning about the winery’s long-standing legacy and winemaking techniques. Overall, the wine served throughout this section highlights Franconian specialties: Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, and Riesling, presented in a relaxed, story-driven way.
A deliberate lunch break in Würzburg follows (meal not included in price), allowing guests to slow down, recharge, and enjoy Franconian cuisine. Guests may choose from traditional German restaurants in the Old Town or opt for another cuisine such as Italian or Vietnamese (& Sushi); reservations can be arranged upon request. Please let us know if they require Vegetarian dishes. For a lighter stop or additional wine experience, guests may also visit another Wine stop if time still permits.
